busy week
I haven’t posted in forever, although there’s always something to post about. I remember back in high school I worked at Dairy Queen (and got my hand stuck in the Blizzard blender 3 times!) and the owner said to me one day, “Life gets boring as you get older cuz you have nothing to look forward to.” What a SAD thing to say, especially to a spazzy 16-year old with huge hair! I’ve realized just how WRONG he is! There’s something to do and look forward to everyday. It may not be exciting things, but there’s always something. And although I can’t always remember what I did the day before, I know I didn’t stop moving until the kids went to bed. Here’s what our crazy, non-boring week went like:
Monday: Woke up to a nests of ants in my kitchen, screamed, threw chairs and rugs outside which ended up getting rained on, had the kids eat breakfast on the living room floor on a picnic table cloth. Ironically, the Terminix guys showed up 15 minutes later so I had him come inside and demolish the ants! Went to the pool w/friends for the last time before school started, great “therapy” session with them. Fischer had a friend over later that day and Leo went to a friend’s house. Had FHE and a BBQ at a friend’s house that night – YUMMY and fun! Also had a very intriguing conversation with a traveling home-birthing mid-wife. After the kids got in bed, made my weekly run to CVS and basically got everything for free-fitty-free! My friend Tiffany hooked me up w/how to work the CVS system – last week I paid $1 for a $12 pack of diapers!
Tuesday: Had a Dr.’s appt in the morning, made Oatmeal cookies w/Zucchini puree I made from zucchini from our garden. Got the recipe from Jessica Seinfeld’s cookbook “Deceptively Delicious.” The kids and Denton liked them, which is always a toss up. Denton had Stake Meetings that night so I bathed the kids by myself, which is always a work out and takes forever. Watched TIVO’d Oprah that night.
Wednesday: Had plans to miss play group and work out that morning after Rocky woke up from his nap. Because Rocky was sick, he went to sleep an hour late and woke up an hour later then usual – sat around and played w/the kids in my work out stuff waiting for him to wake up. Sadly, I changed out of my work out clothes cuz by that time Leo left on a date w/Grandma and I had to hit Target with the boys to get birthday presents for 3 parties this week! That afternoon I made carrot, spinach, red pepper, and zucchini puree. Made Turkey Chili using red pepper and carrott puree – it’s really yummy, Leo requested it. Was finally able to work out that night after the kids went to bed and Denton did Hometeaching, then made a trip to Wal-Mart – night time is the worst time to go there, I waited in line for longer then I was shopping at the store, yuck!
Thursday: Leo’s Kindergarten Orientation! The babysitter came over at 8 am and helped watch the kids while I got ready. Leo and I trudged thru the rain (at least I didn’t have to water the garden this week) and got our carefully planned outfits wet to orientation. (I don’t want to look like a frumpy mom!) During the parent’s meeting I asked if we could ride the bus with our kids on the first day – I got some chuckles from the parents. Really, I’m not worried about the bus, my friend Emily got to ride on the bus w/her son and I thought it would be fun! But we can’t. :) Leo’s teacher is Mrs. Miller and we LOVE her! It’s going to be so fun! While we were at Orientation, Fischer left for a birthday party at his friend’s house. So after we dropped the babysitter off, we headed over to the party – very cute Curious George theme, they had a blast. Had church meetings that night, had to make 30 handouts for Young Women’s that night too.
Friday: Went to the first birthday party of the day late cuz Rocky is sick and I had to give him his nap. Once again, great party! That afternoon McCain announced his VP Sarah Palin who is AWESOME! Denton now has a political crush on her, I’m so ok w/that. :) Took a nap and wrapped presents before we took off for the next party. Arrived late again cuz Rocky had to take a nap. The kids swam while I kept Rocky strapped in the stoller. Got home and hit Five Guys cuz after this week, I didn’t feel like cooking. Watched Palin’s speech, went over the mountains of paperwork from Leo’s Orientation, went to bed at 11pm, couldn’t sleep, read some, the hit the hay at midnight.
Today: Denton made donuts this morning for breakfast, i’m going to work out in 20 minutes. Going to make Blueberry Lemon muffins w/yellow squash puree, clean the house and check out what’s been growing in the garden from the week’s rain, hit Chipotle and the fountains at Stony Point Mall w/Denton’s family tonight. Then finally….. breathe.
